Elsevier is the country's leading news magazine and pursues a decidedly conservative-liberal course. It first appeared in 1946 and is aimed at conservative middle-class business entrepreneurs and students. It regularly brings out special issues on topics such as university studies or literature. Its publisher Reed Elsevier announced plans to sell the newspaper in 2008, but because of the financial crisis was unable to find an appropriate buyer.
