Het Financieele Dagblad is the successor to one of the country's oldest newspapers, the Dutch financial paper founded in 1796. For many years this business newspaper was owned by the Sijthoff family. In 2010 the investment group HAL became the majority owner of the FD Mediagroep, to which the prestigious radio broadcaster BNR Nieuwsradio also belongs.
