The Luzerner Zeitung, (formerly the Neue Luzerner Zeitung) is the biggest regional newspaper in central Switzerland. The result of a merger of several regional newspapers in 1996, some of which were over 150 years old, it is distributed in some cases under a different name in the cantons of Lucerne, Zug, Obwalden, Nidwalden and Uri, in some cases . It belongs to the NZZ Media Group, which owns an 80 percent stake in publisher LZ Medien. Since 2008 LZ Medien has also published the Sunday paper Zentralschweiz am Sonntag.
