Novaya Gazeta ("New Newspaper") is regarded as the most Kremlin-critical paper in the Russian media landscape. It publishes investigative reports on a regular basis. Several journalists working for the paper were killed, including Anna Politkovskaya in 2006. It is frequently involved in legal disputes and regularly receives warnings from the media watchdog authority. Ten percent of the shares in the paper are owned by Mikhail Gorbachev.
