Novaya Gazeta (New Newspaper) was the most militant anti-Kremlin newspaper for almost 30 years. Several journalists who worked for the paper were assassinated, including Anna Politkovskaya in 2006. Mikhail Gorbachev held a ten percent in Novaya Gazeta at the time of its closure. Its editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. On 28 March 2022, the newspaper ceased publication due to state repression.
