The business paper Vedomosti was founded in 1999 by the Sanoma Independent Media group, the Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times as a joint project. After a law was passed in the autumn of 2014 restricting foreign ownership in Russian media assets to 20 percent, the paper was sold to Russian media entrepreneurs. In 2020 Konstantin Sjatkow and Alexej Golubowitsch bought the publishing house, which also resulted in a change in the editorial board.
