The "Independent Newspaper" was founded in 1990 by the Moscow City Parliament. It has been owned by Konstantin Remchukov, who also serves as its editor-in-chief and adopts a moderately pro-Kremlin line, since 2005. As a classical daily, it has primarily made a name with its regular supplements on subjects such as literature, religion, energy, military affairs, foreign affairs, and science.
