The pro-EU daily The New European was founded by British pro-Europeans in July 2016 after the Brexit referendum. Initially it was planned to only publish the paper for a brief period. Its positive reception prompted the publishers to carry on. The focus is increasingly on digital output. In 2017 The New Europe won a string of awards.
