Ukrayinska Pravda

Website

https://www.pravda.com.ua

Ukrayinska Pravda (Ukrainian Truth), founded in April 2000, was long considered the most influential websiteportal in Ukraine. Its editor-in-chief Georgiy Gongadze was kidnapped and murdered shortly after the site was founded. No one has yet been charged with the murder. Especially in the liberal times following the Orange Revolution in 2004, the website became increasingly influential in line with the growth of the Internet. Since 2005, the project has reportedly been financially independent. News appears in both Ukrainian and Russian. Longer articles are generally published in one language only, generally Ukrainian. In 2014, two well-known investigative journalists at Pravda, Serhiy Leshchenko and Mustafa Nayem, were elected into parliament in the presidential party Petro-Poroshenko-Block. In July 2016, a second Pravda journalist was murdered, the Belarussian Pavel Sheremet. No one has been charged with his murder either. The website includes specialist pages on topics such as the economy, European integration, culture and the history of Ukraine. There is also a tabloid section. Parts of the website featuring statements by representatives of the Crimean Tatar minority are blocked in Russia.
