newsru.com is the last remnant of the media empire of oligarch Vladimir Gusinsky, who was forced into exile in 2000. It started as a website run by the TV channel NTV. The editorial team is based in Moscow but keeps its location and the names of the editors secret. It has a sister website in Israel: newsru.com.il. The Ukrainian edition produced in Kiev was discontinued in March 2017.
