With its extensive programming with a high proportion of talk shows, RTL ranks among the two top radio stations in France. The humorous afternoon show Grosses Têtes by presenter Laurent Ruquier is particularly popular. Listeners are more likely to be right-wing voters and elderly. Until the introduction of private radio in France in 1981, this oldest surviving radio station in Europe used to broadcast from Luxembourg.
