Magyar Hírlap is a pro-government, anti-globalist and patriotic daily newspaper. At the end of 2004 the Swiss publishing group Ringier was forced to sell Magyar Hírlap because it bought a majority stake in Népszabadság, and Hungary has a law forbidding ownership of two newspapers at the same time. The paper was long regarded as liberal however in 2005 it was taken over by billionaire Gábor Széles, who made the paper swing to the right. Today Magyar Hírlap is seen as the sometimes radical mouthpiece of the national conservative ruling party Fidesz.
