Hungarian government to ban gender studies

A draft law put forward by the Hungarian government is set to ban universities in the country from offering courses in gender studies. The bill would affect the Central European University, financed by George Soros, as well as Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest. While pro-government media are thrilled to see traditional values being protected, others condemn the initiative as cheap propaganda.

An utterly pointless law

Once again the government is defending the Hungarian people against a danger that doesn't exist, the head of hvg's opinion section András Hont comments:

“It is protecting the Hungarians against their supposed duty to turn into transsexual people of colour. It is countering the alleged threat of little boys playing with dolls and little girls fighting with wooden swords at kindergarten. Meanwhile, fewer than 150 students generally attend the gender studies courses - which have nothing whatsoever to do with the things mentioned above. They have zero influence in Hungarian society - or perhaps a tiny bit if we count the absolutely counterproductive interjections of certain belligerent members of parliament.”

Pseudo science should be banned

This destructive ideology bears no relation whatsoever to an academic discipline and therefore has no place at universities, pro-government daily Figyelö counters:

“The sole objective of gender studies is to destroy the framework that keeps society together: the family and the nation. Soon we're going to need a new alphabet just to list all the social genders: LGBTQAxyz ... The whole thing functions according to communist logic. The perspective of class struggle is shifted to the struggle between men and women, exacerbating the tensions between the sexes. Just like Marxism-Leninism, 'gender studies' is not an academic discipline but an ideology.”
